How to Participate in This Activity and Obtain CME/CNE/CPE Credit

• Launch the simulation from the link provided using a PC, Mac, Tablet, or Phone with a 4G or higher internet connection.
• After the brief introduction and pre-test, launch the first simulation scenario. Interact appropriately to satisfy each objective to unlock the next objective.
• The simulation will track your progress until all scenario objectives are complete. You can exit the simulation at any time, and your progress will be saved so you can return to finish at a later time.
• As you successfully complete more scenarios (2 minimum, 4 total), you will qualify for increasing levels of CE credit (ranging from 1.0 to 1.75 credits). Click or tap "Credit" to determine your CE credit status and receive credit. Upon successful completion of the evaluation, you will receive a certificate of credit immediately via the browser.
• Purdue University will issue an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ Certificate, Vindico Medical Education will issue a Learner-paced Contact Hours Certificate, or Vindico Medical Education will issue an ACPE Statement of Credit. Pharmacist learners will be reported to CPE Monitor within 30 days of successful completion of the activity.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has improved dramatically over the past decade. This progress has yielded more treatment choices for clinicians and patients but also adds greater complexity to the already diverse field of HIV. Clinicians must keep apprised of new data on treatment strategies, selection of appropriate individualized therapy, and effective management of treatment side effects. In this interactive activity, Virtual Practice in HIV Management Through Simulated Scenarios, expert faculty will use a case-based approach to discuss various aspects of HIV management, including how to incorporate new treatment strategies into clinical practice, selecting an initial antiretroviral regimen, switching ART in patients with HIV and multiple comorbidities, management of a patient with an opportunistic infection, as well as addressing patient adherence and stigma.

Target Audience

The intended audience for the activity is infectious disease specialists, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with HIV.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

• Recognize common comorbidities that are associated with HIV, its treatment, and the aging process.
• Incorporate evidence-based practices that aid in the prevention, screening, and management of common opportunistic infections in patients with HIV

Physicians and Pharmacists only:

• Apply evidence-based recommendations and best practices when selecting or switching antiretroviral regimens in patients with HIV and other chronic comorbidities.
• Select the most appropriate therapeutic regimens that improve the overall management of patients with HIV and acute opportunistic infections.
• Incorporate the use of guidelines and best practices when selecting treatment for HIV patients who are treatment-naïve.
• Utilize new advances and approaches to treating HIV in patients who are treatment-experienced.
• Select therapeutic regimens that improve patient adherence to HIV therapy.

Nurses only:

• Summarize evidence-based recommendations and best practices regarding the selection and switching of antiretroviral regimens in patients with HIV and other chronic comorbidities.
• Evaluate therapeutic regimens that have shown to improve the overall management of patients with HIV and acute opportunistic infections.
• Incorporate the use of guidelines and best practices when evaluating treatment for HIV patients who are treatment-naïve.
• Describe new advances and approaches to treating HIV in patients who are treatment-experienced.
• Assess therapeutic regimens that may improve patient adherence to HIV therapy.
