Due to the combination of their training, experience educating patients, and their role as members of the healthcare team, pharmacists are well positioned to contribute in efforts to end the HIV epidemic by supporting the appropriate use of PrEP and nPEP. But to fully embrace their role, it is essential that pharmacists continue to receive education that improves their knowledge and competence regarding PrEP and PEP, and how they can contribute to the interprofessional team.

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists; other members of the HIV care team may also participate.
Upon completing this activity, learners should be better able to:
- Review preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and nonoccupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) guidelines and supporting studies, focusing on key principles, drug options, barriers to use, and other clinical issues.
- Identify roles that pharmacists can play as members of the HIV care team to support the appropriate use of PrEP and nPEP as tools for preventing HIV infection.
- Explore communication strategies for counseling patients about PrEP and nPEP.
Accreditation and Credit Designation
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by American Academy of CME, Inc. and ACTHIV Institute. American Academy of CME, Inc. is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Method of Participation
There are no fees to participate in the activity. Participants must review the activity information including the learning objectives and disclosure statements, as well as the content of the activity. To receive CPE credit for your participation, please complete the post-test (achieving a passing grade of 70% or greater), and program evaluation. Your certificate can be printed immediately. For pharmacists, a statement of credit will be issued through CPE Monitor in 6-8 weeks. Only learners who provided valid NABP e-Profile ID numbers and month and day of birth (MMDD) will be submitted to CPE Monitor for official record of credit.
